This lens, a distinguished member of Sony s G Master series, is engineered to deliver exceptional resolution and sharpness by effectively correcting a broad spectrum of spherical and chromatic aberrations. The constant f 2.8 maximum aperture ensures uniform performance across the entire zoom range, providing enhanced control over focus positioning for techniques that require a shallow depth of field. Additionally, the application of Nano AR Coating minimizes surface reflections, flare, and ghosting, thereby improving contrast and color fidelity in challenging lighting situations. The rounded 11-blade diaphragm further enhances the aesthetic quality of bokeh when utilizing selective focus methods.

The lens design includes three aspherical elements, among which one is an XA element that boasts exceptional surface precision, significantly minimizing astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and various other monochromatic aberrations in the images produced. Additionally, the design incorporates four extra-low dispersion elements and two Super ED elements, which work together to manage chromatic aberrations and diminish color fringing, thereby enhancing clarity and color accuracy.

Reliable Autofocus and Image Stabilization

The advanced double-linear and ring Super Sonic wave motor system provides rapid, precise, and accurate autofocus capabilities for both still images and video recordings. The floating elements system enhances image quality when operating at a minimum focusing distance of 3.15 inches, achieving a magnification of 0.25x. Additionally, the lens barrel features three focus hold buttons and a focus range limiter switch, facilitating swift and intuitive lens operation during shooting.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization significantly reduces the effects of camera shake, resulting in clearer images when capturing photos handheld at slower shutter speeds. This stabilization technology can also be integrated with certain cameras sensor-shift image stabilization systems to enhance the management of camera blur. The OSS Mode switch provides the option to select Mode 1, which is designed for general image stabilization suitable for various shooting scenarios, or Mode 2, which is specifically optimized for panning movements.

Professional Build and Intuitive Handling

The design, which is sealed against dust and moisture, enhances usability in adverse weather conditions. The front lens element is treated with a fluorine coating, which safeguards the glass surface from smudges and dust accumulation. A detachable and rotating tripod mount allows for swift transitions between horizontal and vertical shooting positions. The included petal-shaped lens hood minimizes flare and features a window for easy access to rotating filters, such as polarizers and variable neutral density filters. Additionally, it is compatible with optional 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, enabling further extension of the effective focal length.
